ST. JOHN'S. (Antigua) Feb. 16.

In aggravation of our political misfortunes in this quarter of the globe, it is reported, and we fear with too much colour of certainty, that the lately acquired colonies of Demerara, Berbice, &c. have been wrested from us by the arms of our very active and too successful enemy, the French, and that some British sloops of war have fallen sacrifices upon this occasion. The ships and troops which achieved this conquest, are by some laid to have come from Cayenne, by others, from Old France. Particulars, however, have not yet transpired.
