Full Text

Lansingburgh: August 11.

Suspension of Arms.--Col. Baine adjutant-general of the British army in Canada, passed through this village on Saturday afternoon, for General Dearborn's head-quarters at Greenbush. He was accompanied from Plattsburg, by Major Clark, aid de-camp to General Pettit of the conscripts. They returned on Sunday, at noon ; when Major Clark informed a gentleman of the village, that Col. Baine was the bearer of a proposition from Gov. Provost to Gen. Dearborn, for a suspension of hostilities for sixty days, in consequence of the former having received intelligence of the conditional revocation of the Orders in Council--a measure which might lead to a restoration of peace between the two countries and that the proposition was acceded to by Gen. Dearborn, subject to the determination of the President of the United States. We give this statement, and the authority, as we have received it. The gentlemen proceeded immediately on their return.
