A private note from Springfield informs us that Dr. Schulz is in a delirious condition and the fear is that brain fever has resulted from the severe attack made upon him by the Brazille brothers. The parties who committed the murderous assault have been released on bail. The Springfield Times, gives the following particulars of the affair:
An altercation had taken place between Dave Brazille and the doctor in the afternoon in the billiard hall, during which Schulz drew a revolver on Brazille. The revolver was immediately taken away from the doctor, and he was induced to go to his hotel. The Brazille boys went to the hotel, for the purpose as they say, of settling for some wood they had delivered there, and met the doctor in the hall where the collision occurred. They are both powerful, muscular men, either one of them ought to be able to handle Schulz at his best. For one to assault him with a chair from behind, while the other attacked him in front, was an act of the grossest cowardice, and simply villainous. And what was still worse, not satisfied with having knocked him down with their chairs, they most brutally beat and kicked him after he was down.
Dr. Schulz's condition at this writing is critical, but it is hoped and believed he will recover, but not without the loss of his right eye. He is attended by Dr. Carlin, and everything is being done for him that can be done.
