A. U. DEAN TO AFRICA
Dean Samuel Z. Westerfield of the School of Business Administration at Atlanta University will leave next week for a three month tour of Africa. His trip is the first step in the implementation of a new program highlighted in a recent Atlanta Inquirer to start at the University in the fall of 1961. The program is financed by a $30,000 grant from the Merrill Trust.

Under the program promising African students will be given scholarship aids to attend the University and to serve internships in Atlanta business firms, thus combining theory with practical experience. The business firms involved will be those close to the range of local experiences of the students.

Serving two purposes, the trip would establish contact with colleges and students in order that Dr. Westerfield can find out the type of preparation the students are now receiving for graduate work and it would help him gain insight into the economic development of the different countries so that the Atlanta University program can be realistic.

He will go to Khartoum in the Sudan, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Makerere University College in Kampala, Uganda, the Royal Technical Institute in Nairobi, Kenya, a college in Dar Es Salaam, Tanganyika, the University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, the University College in Ibadan, Nigeria, the University College of Ghana in Accra, the University of Liberia in Monrovia, and Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
