CAIRO--Reconstruction on a railway in Saudi Arabia, which was partly destroyed by Lawrence of Arabia in 1917, will be put to international bid soon as possible.
King Saud of Saudi Arabia has contributed about $560,000 toward the project.
The road the Damascus Medina Desert Railway was completed in 1908, and carried thousands of Moslem pilgrims every year until sections of it were destroyed in 1917.
Over 200 miles of the road were destroyed in the revolt against the Turks.
Reconstruction is sponsored by Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
A modern high-speed motor road will also be constructed across the desert linking Cairo and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia capital, a distance of 1,000 miles.
