Commencement.—On Friday last, concluded the first quarter at Hebron Academy. After an introductory prayer by the Rev. John Tripp, and in the presence of the Trustees, and a considerable collection of people from the vicinity and neighboring towns, the students, thirty seven in number, of both sexes, were critically examined by the Preceptor: and they gave ample specimens of their proficiency in the several arts usually taught in Academies. The expertness in which they acquitted themselves, especially in English Grammar, Composition, and Oratory; and the order and regularity in which the whole was conducted, were very satisfactory to those gentlemen, who have the immediate oversight of the institution, and highly gratifying to the whole body of spectators.—Vocal music and prayer concluded the exercises of the day.—The Trustees voted their thanks to Mr. William Barrows, jun. the Preceptor, for the able and skilful manner in which he conducted the school, the preceding quarter,—The school will be discontinued through the winter season, but will commence again the first Monday in March next.
