on Board the Steamboat Harry Brown.

James Genette who conducts the saloon at Fortieth and Sycamore streets voluntarily gave away two barrels of beer as the result of an election bet a short time ago, but early yesterday morning the act was involuntarily on his part that deprived him of 70 quarts of whiskey.

His place was broken into by burglars who took about $50 worth of the corn juice. The burglars gained entrance into the place through a rear window.

Three men, deck hands on the steamboat Harry Brown were suspected of being the robbers. Genette, who had the tip, saw the men about 9 o'clock yesterday morning on upper Sycamore street and getting a gun held up the trio until the police arrived and they were placed under arrest.

The Harry Brown came down from St. Louis Friday night and about midnight started on her return trip. It was found the boilers needed repairs and the boat was tied up opposite Thirty-fourth street. It is supposed that sometime after midnight some of the deckhands got a thirst and started out to satisfy it, and to stock up for the remainder of the trip. Yesterday morning it was learned that nearly all the deckhands were drunk and a large number of bottles of whiskey were found hid away in various places on the boat.
