"WILLIE MAY DAY" AT C.H.S.

Friday, September 23rd was "Willie May Day" at Community High School.

On that day a special assembly at the Campus Building was held to honor the 1955 graduate of the District 218 schools who recently won second place and the silver medal at the 1960 Olympic 110 meter high hurdles at Rome.

While a student at Community High Willie was not only a star athlete at football, basketball, and track, but also a good student and a credit to the school.

The pictures above show Willie addressing the teachers and students at the special assembly held in his honor. To his right are some of the CHS cheerleaders. In the second picture he is being congratulated by his former superintendent, Dr. H. L. Richards.

May also appeared at student assemblies at the other three buildings, Old Main, Northwest, and Southwest, the following week.
