Portland,

MONDAY, JUNE 2, 1800.

Wednesday last being the day of annual election in Massachusetts, the same was observed in this town, with tokens of festivity. The Artillery company under Capt. Moody, and the Volunteer company under Capt. Boyd, paraded in honor of the day; and performed different evolutions with their usual propriety.

Mr. Ford's Concert, afforded an agreeable proof of the rapid proficiency which his pupils have made under his excellent tuition.

Too much cannot be said in praise of Mr. Ford for his attention and fidelity. The Oration on Music, delivered at the concert, by Dr. Emerson, received and richly merited the applause of the audience. It is hoped this valuable, interesting and ingenious production will not be neglected by the friends of literature.
