Keep 'Em Plowin'

The front of the furrow is their delight,-

Keep 'em plowin'.

With the axletree and the scooter they fight,-

Keep 'em plowin'.

I know their hearts and their struggles long,

Their simple haunts and their driving song,

Keep 'em plowin'

No loftier lot their ambitions crave,

Keep 'em plowin',

Harvest only comes to the brave,

Keep 'em plowin':

There's glory in the silk where the June corn blows.

And music in the pines that end the rows.

And beauty shrouds where the pea-vine grows,

Keep 'em plowin'.

Oh how they love the field and life's simple ways,

So keep 'em plowin',

To the windows of heaven resound their praise.

Keep 'em plowin'.

They do their part who the nation feeds,

Whose faith abides in the soil and the seed

Oh the hand is a jewel that rips up the weed,—

Keep 'em plowin'.
