A Worthless Kansas Youth Receives Hard Treatment From His Neighbors.
Topeka, Kas., Sept. 1.—The quiet village of Meriden, twelve miles north of Topeka, is considerably excited over a White Cap affair which occurred about half a mile from town Saturday night. Will Grondyke, a boy of 17, was pulled out of bed about midnight by a crowd of masked men and taken to a fence near by, where he was strapped to a post and treated to a severe horsewhipping.
As soon as they had finished their work the midnight visitors turned him loose, and after threatening that they would visit him again, rode quietly away.
The boy is a son of a hard working farmer, and is said to be thoroughly worthless. He has ruled the family for months, and a few days ago when his father attempted to correct him, he jumped on the old gentleman and choked him.
His sister interfered in defence of her father and the unnatural young brute kicked and cuffed her so severely that she is in bed in consequence.
The neighbors are pretty well satisfied that the boy received his just deserts, and no efforts will be made to find the White Caps.
