After the reading of the 96th Psalm, and the singing of a missionary hymn, Rev. Dr. Miller, pastor, made a few remarks relative to the great efforts which had been and still are being made to evangelize the world.
He then introduced Professor Smith, who delivered an interesting address, showing the results of the missionary labors in Burmah.
Rev. Hollis Read, of this city, who went as a pioneer to India in 1831, was the next speaker. Mr. Read never spoke with more earnestness. His illustrations were clear, and his address most interesting, and it is to be regretted that time would not allow a fuller statement.
He recounted some of the hardships encountered by himself and two companions in Cawnpore, Calcutta and in the interior of India, where white men had never before been seen.
The services were of intense interest, while the results of the missions afford the most abundant cause for thankfulness.
