Full Text
It gives us much pleasure to reprint from the New Haven Register, a Democratic paper, a very complimentary article proposing Hon. Thomas J. Jarvis for a seat in the cabinet. We would be proud, indeed, were President Cleveland to invite a North Carolinian to become one of his constitutional advisers and give him control of one of the great departments of the government, and we would be much gratified if such an honor should be awarded to Gov. Jarvis. Certainly the South could have no more capable representative in the cabinet. Whatever position Gov. Jarvis has filled, he has easily been equal to the most satisfactory discharge of all its duties. President Cleveland could have no safer adviser, nor the Democratic party a better representative in the cabinet than Gov. Jarvis.
