Full Text

Washington City, July 30.

Copy of a letter to the Secretary of War, dated

Point Lookout,
Monday morning, 25th July.

SIR,

Since my communication of the 18th, no material movement has been made by the enemy in this vicinity. On Tuesday and Wednesday last, two small schooners from below ascended the Potomac, who were in all probability enemy's. On Saturday two small schooners and a brig proceeded down the Bay; the latter and one of the former were from the fleet up the Potomac, the other from the squadron in the neighborhood of Patuxent.

Yesterday evening a frigate dropped down the Bay, as low as the narrows, and anchored; this morning she is under way, and standing for the mouth of Potomac, which will increase the force up that river to two 74's, three frigates, one topsail schooner, and several smaller vessels, and the squadron at present in Patuxent will consist of one frigate, one sloop of war, one brig and a small schooner; the latter having descended the Potomac this morning (25th,) and proceeded up the Bay, she being brought to by the ship, and permitted to pass.

I have the honor to be, &c.

THOS. SWANN.

The Honorable John Armstrong,
Secretary of War.
