In New York Ralph Lockwood a lawyer was shot by a Mr. Barbier. B. says in defence that Lockwood had him arrested and confined in jail, on a suit for debt, while L. staid with Mrs. B. who is a milliner, and, as the servants say, lived sumptuously; that he [Barbier] went to his house and intended to assert his marital rights as lord of the house but to permit the lady to do as she pleased, and that Lockwood came in whilst he was there, and he shot him. The case is in the N. York courts and has created great excitement.
