MARYSVILLE, CALIF. (ANP) Bud Gibbons, local post office employee, was credited last week by Fire Chief William Reilly with saving the lives of 17 trapped in a blazing home for the aged.

Gibbons was working in the post office when fire broke out in a lumber yard across the alley and spread to Ebner house. He dashed into the flaming old rooming house and raced from room to room, awakening the inmates. The occupants had barely enough time to grab a few clothes and escape to the street.

According to Chief Reilly, Gibbons's prompt action undoubtedly prevented wholesale loss of life in the historic rooming house. Total damage was estimated to be $100,000.
