Full Text

Every where, throughout Virginia, the most untiring exertions are making in reference to the political contest there. As usual, however, the Administration party appear to be the most zealous. They leave no stone unturned to accomplish their object. If they have a refractory member, they whip him into the traces- if they have an "impracticable" one, they cut him loose and drive him off. They take advantage of their opponents divisions; and remain themselves an undivided phalanx. In all this party drill, however galling it must be to independent men, they show their adversaries an example, which it would be well, if they could, in a degree, imitate. A majority of the people of Virginia are, without doubt, opposed to the leading and prominent measures of the Administration—and yet, it is a matter of doubt how the present contest will terminate! Such is the force of party against principle! It is proclaimed as the party doctrine, "sink or swim with the President"- and hence he must be supported—or rather, he must swim if the country sinks. How long is this state of things to continue?
