St Mary's, W. Va. (LPA)—Three locals of the Oil Workers International Union are on strike against the Quaker State Oil Co., in this area, seeking elimination of wage differentials in various plants, and inclusion of pensions, insurance, vacations, and increased sick and injury benefits. Emlenton Local 481 and St. Mary's Local 590 struck March 10, and Oil City Local 455 March 15.
Following two months of futile negotiations, the unions withdrew original requests and proposed: three-week vacations after 15 years; double time for holidays worked and straight time for holidays not worked; irrevocable checkoff instead of union shop; wage increases to the scale paid in the Farmers Valley Plant. The pay hike would have meant one to 10-cent hourly increases on 17 job classifications.
