Bishop P. Randolph Shy, presiding Bishop of the sixth Episcopal District will open the 91st Session of the Georgia Annual Conference here tonight with a mammoth musical featuring all of the choirs of the CME Church. The musical is to take place at the Historic CME Church on Butler Street across from Hugh Spaulding Pavilion.
The choirs are under the direction of the choir leaders of all of the churches and Rev. L. H. Pitts, executive secretary of the GTEA.
The program will feature some of the more well known classics, spirituals, and great hymns of the church.
The following Elders will be making reports: The Reverends B. F. Pearson, Augusta; G. C. Jay, Elberton-Atlanta; F. N. Rushing, Holsey-Atlanta; and Rev. R. B. Shorts, Williams-Atlanta District.
Bishop Shy said that he fully expects most of the men to show by their reports great increases in membership and finance. It is expected that this conference will report more than a hundred thousands dollars for various church causes at this meeting.
One of the impressive features of the conference is the work of Education which will be represented by President E. Clayton Calhoun, president of the Paine College in Augusta, and Rev E. K. Hall, president of Holsey Cobb Institute in Cordele, Ga. Rev. M. S. Cherry, Director of Youth work for the entire state will lead the youth of the conference on Saturday in the now "Famous Best Saturday Night in Town" services.
