"Race Conscious"

The Hon. J. Finley Wilson, Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks, has sent out a proclamation directing the antlered herd, both lodges and temples, to observe Emancipation Day on January 1--the 75th anniversary of the end of slavery. The Grand Exalted Ruler says he wants to see the Elks become more "race conscious," for there are several items on the agenda of his organization which require the united support of his members, and perhaps the best way they can all come together is under the term of "race."

For instance, the Elks have a Civil Liberties Commission which is active in the fight for passage of the Anti-Lynching bill, and for amendment and passage of the Wages-Hours bill, before the Congress. Congratulations to the Elk Ruler on joining the ranks of the "Race Conscious."
