A Kansas correspondent of the St. Louis Republican says of this gentleman:
"Governor Denver has so deported himself in his executive and individual capacity that a large majority of the free State men have become his sincere admirers and steadfast friends; and Lane will find his hostile demonstrations promptly met and summarily crushed out, his course rebuked, and himself repudiated, by much the best portion of that "great and noble party" whose sympathy and concurrence he invokes so insidiously, and with a design so obviously nefarious, that notwithstanding all his artful and expert lubricity, he is plainly understood, and will be severely reprobated by all who retain a solitary spark of the true spirit of humanity, morality and justice. He has so frequently, with his practiced glossings, given to the wrong a semblance of the right, and thus misled the honest and the unwary, that a vigilance has been awakened, which will render as apparent as the sunlight his bitter personal malignity and his crafty efforts to induce them to assume the execution of his vengeance."
