Full Text

Rev. E. L. Heermance, who has been pastor of the First Congregational church in this city for over ten years, has handed in his resignation, to take effect the last of February. He has been offered a position as general missionary in the northern part of the state, an important post in a rapidly developing country, and feels that he ought to accept. The church will hold a meeting next week, probably on Friday evening, to act on Mr. Heermance's resignation and take steps to select his successor. He leaves the church in good financial condition, with a good plant, and a united and loyal membership.

Received With Regret.

The resignation of Rev. Heermance is received with regret by his congregation. He has not only been a strong man in the pulpit and has succeeded in strengthening the Congregational church here, but has been an important factor in the community. He is a great organizer, a builder, a man of ideas that go far in the making of communities. He has stood for the moral uplift of this city and has fearlessly advocated those things which, if put into practice, mean for its betterment. He has contributed his time and abilities to the material expansion and upbuilding of Mankato.

Enters a Broader Field.

Rev. Heermance enters upon a broader field of usefulness to the denomination of which he is a prominent member. His work and influence in the church is not narrowed to the limits of this city, but has broadened out over the state. His sincerity of purposes, his energy and his capabilities will now be given a wide scope in which to work.
