Depredations of a Mysterious Animal.

New Brunswick (N. J.) Special.

A story comes to this city of the ravages of a strange animal among the farm-yards of the farmers on the Great Bear swamp. Many farmers have lost sheep and hogs. No one has seen the animal except a hired man of doubtful veracity, who says it is a big black monster with horns about twice the size of a sheep. Last winter sheep and pigs disappeared just as now, and the only trace of their whereabouts was a series of irregular, oddly shaped tracks. Many thought that their peculiar irregularity marked them as those of a kangaroo, and it was supposed that such an animal, having escaped from the Philadelphia "Zoo," had sought refuge in the wilds of Jersey. The identity of the mysterious animal still remains a secret. The farmers have organized a hunting party for Thanksgiving day, when a search for the mysterious animal will be made.
