THE JUDGE AND THE SENATOR -The editor of The Beloit Journal writing from Madison. gives the following as the current version of an interesting "talk." said to have been held recently at Washington, between our Senator Dodge and Judge Larrabee, in reference to the application of the latter for the post of Commissioner of the Land Office

The General received with the Judge, and the latter stated his case, and requested the assistance of the former. Gen. Dodge looked at him searchingly and inquired, "How old are you" The Judge replied "Thirty three." "Sir, " said the General, "the Land Office is a very important office, the whole country is interested you are too young, beside you helped defeat Hobart in that office: it must be filled by a man of experience; you opposed him, you made speeches against him; you helped Doty: you have not been true to the party, no man who has aided that political scamp, or been as treacherous to the party as you have, shall have my assistance for any office."

The Judge was much disconcerted, and could only reply. "I see, General, somebody has been poisoning your mind against me. " I do not pretend that this is the verbatim conversation which passed between them, but I have it second-hand from one of the most confidential friends of Gen. Dodge, now in Washington, as being substantially correct.

[Milwaukee Sent. & Gaz.

This is not the first time that the age of Gen. Pierce's appointees has been inquired. Gray-haired "regular nomination " politicians seem to be preferred to Young America and Radicals.
