PORTSMOUTH. Last Friday Afternoon, a melancholy Affair happened at the Globe Tavern, on the Plains of this Town, viz, Mr. John King, who kept the said Tavern, being in his Garden at Work, Mr. Joseph Moulton jun: a deputy Sheriff attempted to take him for a Sum of about Forty Dollars: King observing Moulton coming towards him; and Suspecting his Design, ran to a Tree where he had left his Gun: when Moulton came near him, he told him to keep at a Distance, for he would not be taken by him; however when he had got within about ten Feet of King, he fired a full Charge of Goose Shot in his Face; Moulton Was taken up by a Person who saw King shoot--It was thought he would soon have expired; however he is alive at present, there is but little hopes of him; He is attended by three Doctors, who think both his Eyes are out, Part of his Nose and five or six Teeth Shot away, and the Whole of his Face and Head in a terrible Condition. About a Dozen Shot has been extracted from his Head already--By this unhappy Affair two Families are in deplorable Circumstances:

Twenty Dollars Reward. WHEREAS Joseph Moulton, jun. being a Deputy Sheriff, under me, and having a Precept against one John King, who kept the Globe Tavern on the Plains, two Miles Out Of this Town, did on Friday, the 16th Instant, attempt to serve said Precept on said King, being then at work in his Garden, with a loaded Musket by his Side, which he took up, and told said Moulton he would shoot him if he advanced any further; but said Moulton not thinking he would dare do it, came up within a few Feet of him, when said King discharged the Musket full in his Face, and it is feared has mortally wounded him: upon which he immediately absconded--Therefore, I hereby promise the above Reward of TWENTY DOLLARS, to any Person or Persons that will apprehend the said John King, and commit him to any of his Majesty's Gaols in this Province, or any other, or secure him in such a Manner that he may be bro't to condign Punishment.--said King is a Frenchman born, dark complexion, thick-Set, about five Feet six or seven Inches high, wears his own Hair, and talks broken English.
