Baltimore June 25.

IMPORTANT.

Capt. Monteath, who arrived at the fort, informs that on or about the 21st ult. arrived at La Guira, the crew of a French privateer, direct from Cadiz, run ashore on the island of Fortuga Selada, to windward of La Guira, who had since her arrival among the islands, taken an American schooner belonging to the northward, but fell in with an English ship of 16 guns, who ran her ashore.

Captain Monteath saw the captain of the privateer's instructions from France—these instructions signified that he had full power to capture every American vessel he fell in with, without any discrimination.
