Full Text

Pall Falsehood.

The Scott Organ, writing in the Whittemore vein, protests that the State taxation, under the Ring, "has been reasonable and is being reduced."

What a whopper!

The total tax for the year 1869 was $1,835,104.

Whether this is "reasonable," is shown by two prominent examples. One-tenth of the whole area of Fairfield County, and one-sixth of the whole area of Williamsburg County, are advertised to be sold for unpaid State and County taxes. And as the current expenses of the State were increased, by the Ring, $300,000 in one year, what hope is there of taxes "being reduced?"
