Full Text

Fort Dummer, October 12. Yesterday, about 12 o'Clock, the Garrison at the Great Meadow was attack'd by an Army of French and Indians, who fought briskly for an Hour and Half, but thro' the Divine Goodness were not able to take the Fort; but Mr. Neh. How being about 80 Rods from the Fort when the Enemy appeared, was taken by them, and David Rugg and Robert Baker being up the River in a Canoe, in their Return were Shot upon, and Rugg kill'd, but Baker made his Escape.

The most of the Cattle belonging to the People there are kill'd. I fear the Enemy have attack'd the Garrison at No. 4, and think 'tis likely may be scattered to other Places about these Parts. The Men that were in the Fort at the Great Meadow are very confident that they have kill'd Several of the Enemy which Men fought valiantly and courageously.
