In Church
The solemn organ tone
Brought visions of the Throne;
The sacred Word conviction stirred,
And made life's purpose known,
Then a sweet, soulful voice,
Calling to wisdom's choice,
Fell on the ear all soft and clear,
Making the heart rejoice.
Oh, guileless maiden heart.
Where hast thou gained this art?
Not all the schools, with learned rules,
The secret could impart.
She only may inspire
To loftiest desire.
Whose own high aim has caught the flame
From Heaven's pure altar fire.
