Hampton had received orders from General Wilkinson, to march his army from that place to French Mills. The troops were immediately ordered to get ready to march at a moment's warning. In the meantime Gen. H. sent an express to Gen. W. in hopes to persuade him to countermand the order, on account of the lateness of the season.
