We think the following extract of a letter worthy the serious consideration of the people and government of the United States:-
New-York, December 22.
"Sir—Being informed that you are one of the sufferers by illegal captures at Naples, I take the liberty of suggesting the propriety of endeavouring to prevail on our government, to appoint a Minister, or Agent, to look after our claims. I am informed, that the amount of American property seized at Naples, is six or seven millions of dollars; and if a suitable person is sent there, I have good reason to believe that he will be able to make a satisfactory arrangement. A gentleman, lately arrived from Naples, assured me, that if Commodore Decatur had been instructed to demand payment of just claims, he would have found no difficulty in the arrangement. He says, the Neapolitan government are so much afraid of Decatur, that he would be the best Agent we could send to Naples, to look after our claims. If our government would send him out in a large frigate, with orders to bring her and the other vessels now in the Mediterranean to an anchor in the bay of Naples, I am satisfied that our just claims would be liquidated without trouble, or any risk of a war."

Extract of a letter from New-York dated December 22 suggests that sufferers by illegal captures at Naples prevail on the US government to appoint a Minister or Agent to handle claims. Recommends Commodore Decatur as the best agent due to Neapolitan government's fear of him, proposing he be sent in a large frigate to anchor in the bay of Naples with other Mediterranean vessels to liquidate the claims.
