Friday evening last, arrived in this town, Henry Moss, aged 49 years, born a free negro in one of the lower counties of this state, but who is now as fair as any white man, except a few black spots on his face, hands, and feet. The wool on his head is shedding, and where it has disappeared hair supplies the place thereof–and on every other part of his body, where wool generally appears on the sable race, there is now hair. This wonderful change began to take place about four years since, and first appeared at the root of his finger nails. He carries certificates with him to prove his having been born black, how long he continued in that state, when the change commenced, how it progressed, &c. and some gentlemen of this town and neighbourhood, who went through curiosity to see him, were convinced that he is the same Henry Moss that belonged to the Virginia line during the late war, that he was at that time as black as any negro, and that he officiated as a waiter to Col. John Neville. We think it necessary to add, that his father was a real, black, and his mother a dark mulatto.
During his residence here, which was from the evening of Friday the 24th ult. until Tuesday morning last, he was visited by some hundreds of people, who could not refrain from expressing their surprize and astonishment at the wonderful change which the Almighty Hand of Omnipotence has wrought in him.
The generality of persons who went to see him made him small presents.
He is now on his way to Philadelphia.
