We insert the following Letter from a London Paper of the 17th of November, in hopes of its being of Service to the afflicted.
Shadwell, November 8, 1766.
A few days past I met an acquaintance of mine much afflicted with the dropsy, he had applied to several eminent gentlemen of the faculty without success. Accidentally he dropt into a Green-stall in old Gravel-Lane, where the woman knowing him, she said Mr. ---, you don't look well: His reply was; I have got a dropsy; the house being full of customers, she desired him to stay :--then advised him to take a Leek, pound it in a mortar, extract the juice, and to take a table spoonful in half a pint of new milk ; to avoid prolixity, he was desired to double, treble, &c. the quantity of the juice, (but still in the half pint of milk) according as he found his constitution could bear it. He did so ; and now is in a perfect state of health. This you may depend is a truth ; for; if required, I can produce the parties.
