Full Text

The Los Angeles Terminal railroad yesterday gave an excursion to the inmates of the poor farm, taking them to Terminal island, and giving them lunch at the pavilion. A special car was attached to the morning train, and at the county farm the train was met by the expectant crowd, who quickly filed into their car and were taken to the island. Dr. Post had charge of the party. There were 40 inmates from the house alone, beside some of the help from the place. An enjoyable time was spent on the island by the old fellows. None of them went in bathing, however, as the water and the air were very chilly. One of the old men carried his violin, and helped towards the general good time. The party remained until 4 o'clock, when they took the train for home. When at the farm, as the men were filing out of the car, one of the crowd proposed three cheers for the railroad officials. "Clear your throats, boys, before you give the cheers," he cried; and, though the cheers were not so loud as have been heard, they were given with much feeling and gratitude.
