B O S T O N. July 12.

The Master of a Fishing Vessel arrived here Yesterday from Cape Ann says, That on the 27th of June, on Bank Vert, in Lat. 46, he spoke with a Brig. in Company with another Brig and a Schooner, all full of Men, Women and Children, who said that on the 24th they had been drove off their Settlement in the Bay of Bulls, near St. John's in Newfoundland, by three Spanish Men of War of the Line, from 80 to 60 Guns, and one Frigate, who landed and destroyed their Cattle; that they escaped to another Harbour, and got on board those Vessels. That the Spanish Ships had drove on Shore a Brig from Ireland, with above 100 Soldiers, who got to the Land; but the Brig was taken. That a Fishing Vessel had got to St. John's, who said he saw the Spaniards sink 10 Fishing Vessels on the Great Bank. That there were other Spanish Ships of Force on the Banks besides the forementioned Vessels. That they expected to be attacked at St. John's.

Capt. Samuel Dogget of the Sloop Swallow arrived here Yesterday in eight Days from Halifax, and says, That on the 27th of June he heard that the Syren Frigate was arrived there with Advice, That a Fishing Schooner had come into St. John's, who said that on the Banks he had met with five large Ships and a Frigate, who fired 100 Shot at him, and several Volleys of Small Arms, but he escaped in a Fog. That the Syren in her Passage met with six Transports for Quebec, one of which, a large Ship said that they had fired at a Schooner to bring her to, the Day mentioned by the Schooner aforesaid.

The Syren and Gramont Frigates Sail'd from England about the 1st of May, as Convoy to Several Vessels bound to Newfoundland, Quebec, &c.

The Syren arrived at Halifax last Thursday Night, and after staying there a short Time, sail'd again for *****, ....Lord Colvill in the Northumberland Man of War of 74 Guns is now at Halifax

An Express was dispatch'd late last Night by His Excellency the Governor, for New York.
