Deputy State Fire Marshal James Truax is investigating the fire which broke out in rubbish in the cellar of the house owned by Milton V. Lord of Woodland Beach on Main Street. the former home of the late Mrs. George Carter. The large three-story frame house has been unoccupied for some time and is for sale. The alarm on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. was answered by twenty-five volunteers. The house is next to the Post Office and adjoins a row of stores with apartments over them including the one on the corner of Main Street and Commerce Street in the center of the business district. The half a block of buildings is often used by the volunteer firemen for a fire drill because of its strategic location. The volunteers were at the scene about three-quarters of an hour. There was no damage except from smoke to the building.
