To Pay Employes
Of Legislature
JUNEAU, (AP) - The pay scales for the Legislature's 43 employes have been set up by the joint permanent help committees.
At the top and scheduled to receive $35 a day apiece are the top officers in each branch, Senate Secretary Katherine Alexander and Chief House Clerk Esther Reed.
Following acting Governor Wade's signing yesterday of the two bills authorizing appropriating money for the staff pay, the committees had the job of determining what the pay of each individual should be, within the pay brackets set up. All have worked without pay since the session opened January 26.
The Governor also signed into law yesterday another bill authorizing the expenditure of $23,107 to buy legislative duplicating and printing equipment.
Among others who will get the top pay in their job classifications are: machine room foreman Ted Trillingham, $24 a day; Mrs. Mariel Mahoney, fiscal and procurement officer for the Legislature, $22; and sergeants-at-arms Ben Potter in the House and Leslie Swanson of the Senate. $20.
Most of the rest of the staff workers will be paid at rates in the middle of their pay brackets.
