AFTER SHOOTING MAN
ROCK ISLAND, Ill., Jan. 22—By shooting John Sexton, a turnkey, and overpowering two guards, between 20 and 25 prisoners escaped from the county jail last night. Fourteen of the men are convicts from the Joliet penitentiary who until recently had been on parole and working at the government arsenal here, but were taken in custody several days ago for violating provisions of their parole.
Last night's jail delivery followed an unsuccessful attempt of a number of prisoners to escape three weeks ago and is the culmination of a six weeks' crime wave here.
