LEGISLATURE, Friday.—Small Bills.—The Assembly
on the Small Bill law rejected the amendments of
the Senate, 88 to 21. When the bill went back to the
Senate, that body voted to adhere to its amendments,
and appointed a committee of conference on the subject. In this the Assembly concurred, but its committee was not announced on that day. Our impression is from what we hear, that the Assembly will insist on the principles of entire repeal and that when
the matter goes before the Senate again, the Conservatives in that body, who hold the majority in their
own hands, will vote with the whigs and so the repeal
will become a law.
