Broke Into Louisville Nashville Tool House and Secured Pick to Open Store—Articles in Store of L. S. Hancock Not Touched.
(Monday's Daily.)

Another of the series of safe robberies which have taken place in this county at almost regular intervals during the past two years, was attempted at the Glendale postoffice last night. Evidently the nerve of the robbers failed them after they had blown open the safe for they left without taking any booty at all.

The entire front door of the safe was blown off and the safe pretty badly wrecked but the robbers failed to take any stamps so far as could be ascertained. Neither did they take any money, nor anything from the store of Doss Hancock, the postmaster.

Mr. Hancock lives near the building in which he keeps the postoffice and believes that at about 11:30 o'clock last night he heard an explosion. He thought at the time that the explosion was a gun or some fire arm being discharged and made no particular investigation. However, this morning, after viewing the wreck, he is of the opinion that it was the explosion at the safe that he heard, although he might have been mistaken.

There was very little money in Mr. Hancock's office or store. Since the repeated depredations of the safe blowers Mr. Hancock makes it convenient to have only little money outside of the banks. He did not find anything in the store disturbed except a box of soap. Some of this had been used for packing the nitroglycerine.

That the work done at Glendale was that of the same gang that has been operating pretty well all over the county and that only a short time ago robbed the office at Culleoka, admits of no sort of doubt. They left the very same footprints. They broke into the tool house of the L. & N. Railroad from which they secured tools to open the store and then to bore a hole into the safe in which to pour the explosive. It is evident that the explosion was too noisy and threw the robbers into a panic. They probably stood not upon the order of their going.

There is no clue to the perpetrators and although the opinion prevails that the work is being done by local parties evidence pointing to any one is wholly lacking.
