Radio Station WFRP Presents Records to YMCA

Over two hundred gospel, spiritual, and blues records were donated last week to the West Broad Street YMCA and USO by radio station WFRP, it has been announced by Mr. J. R. Jenkins, executive secretary. The disks, featuring top Negro artists in every line, will be used in the recreation rooms of the community center for use of civilian and trained forces visitors.

The donation was arranged by Larry "Doc Jive" Shields, top disk jockey and stage star of the personality station in Savannah. The records represent the hit tunes in every field of Negro music which have outlived their popularity on "jive from three to five" and "Country Chapel of the Air," the two outstanding shows originated by Deejay Shields and conducted by him daily.

Mr. Jenkins has sent WFRP a letter of thanks and a commendation for considering the needs of the joint community endeavors, the YMCA and the USO. Teen age civilians and all members of the armed forces are invited to visit the West Broad Street location and spin the disks without charge, Mr. Jenkins has announced.
