Full Text

The Volunteers.—There would be no difficulty in raising the corps of volunteers required by the U. S. in the western country, were it not for the unpopular standing of Gen. Wilkinson—this the only barrier, while Wilkinson is commander in chief. The Government has sanctioned his conduct, and were the volunteers to tender their services with a reservation respecting Wilkinson, they are fearful of flying in the face of the Government which they have uniformly revered. The conduct of Wilkinson, to the western people has been a stumbling block; and to the Burrites foolishness.
