Ex-Superintendent Rheutan Remembered by Former Help.
Ex-Alderman Abram A. Rheutan, who has been superintendent of the W. H. Hill Envelope Company for the past 31 years, has severed his connection with the firm as one of the results of the formation of the envelope trust, but he still holds a place in the affections of the employees of the concern. This fact was shown yesterday, when a handsome quartered oak roll-top desk was sent to his home, on Providence street. There was no accompanying note nor was there any presentation speech, but Mr. Rheutan had a suspicion where it came from, and this suspicion was made a certainty with the arrival of a valuable and unique watch charm. The charm is in the form of a golden envelope, bearing on its face the inscription: "A. A. Rheutan, Worcester, Mass."
In the upper right hand corner is a stamp cut into the gold, the red being furnished by means of enamel. On the reverse side of the envelope is the inscription, "Presented by employees of the W. H. Hill Env. Co., Oct. 8, 1898."
The drop of sealing wax on this side of the envelope is represented by a garnet. The presents were entirely unexpected by Mr. Rheutan, but he will convey his thanks to the donors this week by means of a letter.
Mr. Rheutan has made no plans for the future, but for the present he will take a much-needed rest, as this is the first vacation he has had in 40 years.
