AN INDEPENDENT NATION
New York—Former New York Congressman Joseph Clark Baldwin suggested a conference between the United States and Great Britain for the purpose of recognizing Palestine "as an independent democracy."
His recommendation was included in a report on a six weeks' trip to England and Palestine which Baldwin made as administrative chairman of the Political Action Committee for Palestine, Inc.
A spokesman for the committee said that "Baldwin's findings are in the nature of an official report to the President of the United States and have already been presented to Mr. Truman personally."
Baldwin suggested that Palestine, as an independent democracy, should include "politically the homeless Jews in Europe," and that its boundaries should be the "existing boundaries of Palestine temporarily exclusive of Trans-Jordan."
