DuBuque, Aug. 16.—A bad wreck occurred last night on the Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City road at Almoral, a little station in Delaware county. About 10:30 o'clock a freight train was standing on the main track at Almoral station, being delayed two hours with some repairs about the engine, and had neglected to put out danger signals, when another freight came in at about forty miles per hour. The engineer could not perceive that the standing train was on the main track until too late to stop, and, after throwing the air brakes, he and the fireman jumped for their lives, and their train crushed into the rear of the other train, totally wrecking the engine and about twenty cars, which at once took fire. There being no water at hand they were entirely burned, and when revealed by daylight were reduced to a smoking mass of debris. Eleven of the cars were loaded with flax seed, valued at $1.25 per bushel. Two trainmen were badly injured and were brought by a special train to this city, where they received medical assistance. Both trains being loaded with through freight the loss is very heavy.
