Full Text

In Lansdowne Valley, which is between Memorial and Agricultural Halls, one of the truly romantic spots on the Centennial grounds, is the Hunter's Cabin, which is among the most attractive novelties of the Exhibition. It is built of logs, in the Western Log Cabin style, except that it is entirely open in front. It is to represent the abode of a Rocky Mountain trapper or hunter, and around the walls are all the paraphernalia that he is supposed to need. On pegs or against the walls in the interior, are to be seen fishing tackle, horns of deer and rams, hides of bears, buckskin coats, leggings, moccasins, stuffed prairie chickens, ducks and a host of other curious trophies. There are several real hunters there-genuine ones--who have followed the business for a livelihood, and they wear the buckskin garb of their profession. They dress skins, cook and eat as in frontier life, while just outside of the cabin is a camp-fire kept constantly burning, a rough table and a hammock to give fair conception to their manner of living in the West. Near by is a dam upon which there are several Indian canoes, and they are used by the hunters to show how fish are gulled and the beaver caught.
