Extract of a letter from Portsmouth, Dec. 27.

"By a letter from L'Orient we have advice, that a large brig, which arrived on the coast of Africa for slaves, had been surprised by the natives, and all the crew murdered or carried up the country. The Captain with ten men went up in his boat to treat with the Negro Chief, who instantly seized him, and in the night, manning the boat with his own people surprised the vessel which they immediately ran ashore, and after having taken every thing from her they thought valuable, set her on fire."
