Completion of a program to improve one of the playgrounds at Prospect Elementary School is expected to be realized this Spring.
The Board of Education has approved the plans as submitted by N. F. Leist, Assistant to the Superintendent.
Mr. Leist explains that much of the 165x185 foot lot at the corner of Shaw Ave. and Prospect St. will be hard surfaced, the area to be grassed for a 45 foot deep strip to protect an elm tree at the northeast corner and a ten-foot grass strip along Prospect Ave. Shrubbery will be planted for added beauty.
A baseball diamond ample for the first to fourth grade pupils using this playspot will be laid out with a back stop to the south east. Along the opposite side will be swings, slides, a merry-go-round and hobby horse teeter-totters. A nice big square to the front will be lined for such games as hop-scotch etc. A retaining wall will be needed on the west property line.
While the improvements will be made one at a time, the ultimate cost is estimated at $10,822.
Last year a retaining wall was constructed along the Euclid Ave. and part way up on the Prospect Ave. frontages; sidewalk was widened at the corner, and new fencing was constructed.
