Full Text

An Extract of a Letter from Amsterdam, April 9.

'If one may give Credit to what the Advices from Paris import, the British and French Courts are agreed upon the principal Points which relate to their respective Possessions in America, and in Consequence thereof, they have each of them sent to their Commandants and Governors there, to do nothing that may interrupt the good Understanding which now prevails between their British and Most Christian Majesties. One may, as a private Letter intimates, the more readily, give Credit to what is reported about such Orders being sent to the Governors and Commandants, seeing France is likely to gain thereby; since she will scarcely fail, during the Time that these Orders subsist, and are observed, to send all Sorts of Provisions and Ammunition, not only to the French Colonies, which she is permitted to do, and which cannot, without Injustice, be contested with her; but she may likewise without any Obstacle, and undoubtedly will, furnish with Arms the Indians, Neighbours of Nova Scotia, as well as the ancient French Inhabitants established in those Quarters, and whom the English call Rebels, because they depend upon Nova Scotia, and consequently are Subjects of his Britannick Majesty.'
