EL PASO SCHOOL BAND
VISITS STATE CAPITOL

Supt. Hubbard Writes of Enjoyable Visit by Boys of His Progressive School.

Editor Log Cabin Democrat:

I am writing you a little about the visit our high school band made to the state capitol. Our boys are very grateful to Dr. H. B. Hardy, representative from Faulkner. Dr. Hardy has the faculty of taking hold of things at the right time. He piloted the El Paso high school band into the governor's office where the boys played and were received by the governor.

The senate, and in fact all the departments showed us great courtesy and paid our school the highest possible honors. I am glad and our boys are extremely happy for their visit to the capitol last Wednesday.

The object of the visit was to study civil government at short range, and to show every country boy in Arkansas that there is an opportunity for him. Our school is in the poorest district in Arkansas yet we have the highest country school in the south. The honors we have received can be had by every boy in the state. I want you to write a story to the country boys in Faulkner county, and tell them that what has been done is to show them that they can achieve like success. That it does not take money so much as grit. We are talking profitable farming, consolidation and state aid, but must change our course of study for the rural school and I am in favor of having directors' institutes one week as well as teachers' institutes. This must come in order to have a new alignment of thought in the country.

R. J. Hubbard.
